About Rising Sun Karate
Rising Sun Karate teaches a variety of martial arts with Okinawan Shorin-Ryu as the core of the training.
In addition to Shorin-Ryu Karate, we teach, Kombat Kenjutsu or padded sword fighting, Kobudo (traditional Okinawan weapons), grappling, self-defense, cardio kick-boxing, Batto-do (samurai sword) and conditioning.
Tim VanDenover is an 8th Degree Black Belt under the instruction of Grand Master James Hawkes, co-founder of the United States Karate Alliance. VanDenover Sensei began his training in Albuquerque, NM in 1971 and quickly earned the trust of Master Hawkes to teach his beginning classes. Upon moving to Scottsdale in 1994 he opened Rising Sun Karate on 2/11/95. Since that time VanDenover Sensei has been awarded 6 hall of fame awards.
Karate requires commitment. Advancement is based on three classes a week. Attending more than three times per week will not help you progress any faster, but fewer classes will delay your progression. Karate is NOT all business at Rising Sun.
